Talking to your Teen about Friendship and Bullying

Friendship-and-Bullying_200.jpg

We're for friends. We're for different, but same. We're for understanding. We're for growing up. We're for hugs, not shoves. We're for upstanders, not bystanders. We're for life-long confidants. We're for finishing each others... Sentences. We're for treating each other with respect, even when we disagree. We're for healthy relationships because they, in fact, keep us healthy.

Healthy relationships and strong friendships in the preteen and young teen years can influence dating relationships in the future. Model good friendship in your family and with your own friends. Talk to your young teen about how to be a good friend to others and how to create friendships that are safe, fun, and mutually respectful. Teach how to be an upstander, not a bystander, and help stop the cycle of bullying. Talk about ways to respond to bullying.

Use these conversation starters to promote respectful friendships and responsible behavior among young teens and help stop abuse and bullying now.
